Ken and Colette Pierce were so impressed with the North after visiting the Yukon with the Century Flight Club and then northern Manitoba with the Manitoba Aviation Tour that they've decided to return in 2011.  They would be happy to have you participate!!  Here are their plans:

July 27 - August 2, 7 days, total distance 1140 nm

July 27, Wednesday - depart home strip at Beulah, MB for CYFO Flin Flon - 267 nm
possible fuel stops:  Swan River, The Pas
2 nights at Bakers Narrows Lodge

July 29, Friday - 12:00 h depart Flin Flon for CYFX Gillam - 260 nm
fuel up at Gillam, alternate Thompson
depart for CYYQ Churchill - 118 nm
3 nights at Lazy Bear Lodge
possible tours include: dream beluga tour, snorkelling with belugas, kayaking, historic Fort Churchill, nature studies, science center, rocket range, Eskimo Museum, train station, ...

August 1, Monday - 12:00 h depart Churchill for CYFX Gillam - 118 nm
14:00 h arrive at Gillam, board charter plane and depart for York Factory for a tour of about 5 hours
York Factory has a 1500 foot sand strip with water at both ends, float planes can land on the river
back to Gillam to overnight at the Aurora Gardens Motel

August 2, Tuesday - 07:00 h depart Gillam for CYNE Norway House - 180 nm

20:00 h depart for home strip - 262 nm

Some important points:

  • Northern Survival Kits are absolutely required for flight in the North!
  • All pilots are responsible for their own intineraries, flight plans, accommodations, etc.
  • Book accommodations ASAP, you can always cancel if necessary.
  • When you book accomodations in Churchill book your tours right away.
  • Please provide us with your call signs, accomodation info, cell phone and home phone numbers.
  • The Gillam charter is with Gillam Air, $1600 for 6 passengers, 4 hours at York Factory.
  • STOL aircraft could land at the strip, float planes on the river.
  • Camping overnight in the enclosed campground (this is polar bear country) is possible.
  • There is no fuel at Churchill airport.  It might be possible to get fuel in drums but this hasn't been arranged yet.
